Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra 55th Anniversary Celebration
In 1970, Stan Kenton and his orchestra recorded the historic Live at Redlands University album — a groundbreaking project that helped set a new standard for big band performance and jazz education.
Now, 55 years later, the Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra, led by trumpet legend Mike Vax, proudly honors that legacy with a fresh national tour and educational outreach program.
Mike Vax, who played lead trumpet on the original Redlands recording, brings a direct, authentic connection to the Kenton tradition.
With the blessing of the Kenton family, SKLO continues the powerful sound, creative spirit, and educational commitment that made Stan Kenton an enduring force in American music.
The 55th Anniversary Celebration performances feature many of the iconic charts recorded at Redlands, alongside original Kenton favorites and new compositions written in the Kenton style.
In addition to concert performances, SKLO offers masterclasses, clinics, and educational residencies designed to inspire the next generation of jazz musicians.
This is more than a concert — it’s a living tribute to one of the most important recordings in big band history, led by an artist who helped make it happen.
